Calling butchers, bakers and other food makers!

Available Housing

We have two units becoming available shortly (by summer 2026) for the next households to join us – a one-bedroom apartment, and a two-bedroom apartment. With a new commercial kitchen onsite, these housing opportunities are ideal for entrepreneurs in food production.

Rental rates are set primarily to recover annual property costs (tax, insurance, management, accounting, etc), which makes them lower than market-based rent.

Residents also rent any spaces they need for their enterprise, including outbuildings and acreage, at a modest cost.

This offer is based on the principle of affordable land access with secure year-round housing. It is for ecological entrepreneurs, with a focus on food producers at this time.

The biggest part of the affordability is because you are not buying the land itself, or paying any interest on the money that has been invested in the land.

Who We’re Looking For

Housing opportunities are ONLY for people who are going to make their living at Neighbourly Farm by running an enterprise that fits our criteria and space. The enterprise is your own – no one is overseeing you or your financials – but you have to actually do it.

In a two-adult household, only one of you must have a full-time commitment to the onsite enterprise. The other adult is free to work off-farm or do anything else.

Priority enterprises

  • Butcher
  • Baker
  • Fermented foods
  • Other kitchen-based enterprises
  • Beekeeping
  • Non-food enterprises, such as large-scale compost-making, experiential education and woodworking will be of interest in future.

How to Apply

You can apply for this housing through the online contact form, with brief answers to the following preliminary questions:

What entrepreneurial activity are you proposing to pursue at Neighbourly? What experience do you have in this work?

Who are the other people in your household? What is the work focus of any other adult in your household?

Where are you living, and what are you doing, now?

Due to volume, please note that you will only receive a response if you answer these preliminary questions.
